Afghan doctors ‘totally shocked’ to find Taliban members hiding in medical facilities

Medical personnel in Afghanistan are “completely shocked” to find themselves working in a hospital which they are “highly trained to treat and manage”, a senior doctor said.

“This is an extremely serious situation,” Dr Ahmed Rashid said in an interview with BBC News.

“The Afghan medical system has not developed a system for treating and managing the symptoms of Taliban fighters, and it is not working.”

Taliban fighters are hiding in the buildings of the Kabul Medical College and Hospital in the north of the country.

They have been holed up there for weeks, unable to be seen by anyone, despite attempts by local health officials and Afghan forces to rescue them.

The Taliban have been blamed for killing hundreds of people, including many doctors, since a US-led air campaign in the country began in 2001.

The Afghan government has been struggling to rebuild its crumbling health infrastructure following the withdrawal of Nato forces in 2014, and the Taliban has exploited the situation.

The authorities in Kabul have said the Taliban are “displaced and in hiding”, and are trying to evade capture.

But Afghan officials have been unable to provide clear details about their presence in the hospital.

“They are in the building.

There are three Taliban fighters in there.

They are all under a blanket, not on the ground,” Dr Rashid told BBC News, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media.

“I cannot see what they are doing, what they have done, or where they are.

They don’t know how to treat the wounded.”

The Taliban’s presence in a building that is supposed to treat wounded Taliban fighters has raised concerns about the health of those treating them.

“It is totally shocking to see them there.

There is a lot of danger in hiding there.

We have been trying to rescue wounded Taliban from there for months now.

We are working to find out who they are, and what they do in their rooms,” Dr Ashraf Ghani, a professor of medical ethics at Kabul University, told BBC Trending.

It’s a very dangerous situation.” “

So we must find out what they did in there and how they are treating the wounded.

It’s a very dangerous situation.”

He added: “The Taliban are hiding there, in a very dark place, for months, and we are not sure who they actually are, but we can tell from the smell that they are Taliban fighters.”

The Afghan military, which is still fighting the Taliban in the northern city of Kunduz, has confirmed that Taliban fighters have been hiding in a nearby building.

But the authorities have not been able to confirm that they have been allowed in or released.

A spokesman for the Kabul military hospital, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Sadiq, told the Associated Press news agency that it was “not clear whether the Taliban were allowed in the medical facility or not”.

Afghan military sources said they had not been given permission to enter the building, and that the Taliban had been trying desperately to flee.

The Associated Press also reported that Taliban commanders have also been living in a clinic in Kabul.

Dr Rashad added: The Taliban is trying to avoid detection and escape.

We can’t go into the building with them, so we can’t treat them.

But we are working hard to get them out.

The Afghans have been battling the Taliban since 2001, when the US-backed government overthrew the Taliban government and began its withdrawal.

The US-supported Afghan government is struggling to build its reputation and rebuild its own military.

The United Nations says more than 2,000 people have been killed in the fighting, and more than 100,000 Afghans have fled the country since the start of the conflict in 2014.

“We have not seen any reports of any Taliban attacks on the health care facilities of the Afghan government, nor have we seen any sign of Taliban activity in these facilities,” said Dr Rashisah.

The health system is very well developed. “

But it is important to note that the health facilities of Kabul are under the full control of the government.

The health system is very well developed.

“What is more, it is very difficult to get ahold of them because the Taliban hide in many places, and there is a high chance of them being captured.””

We are trying very hard to recover those wounded and the wounded are being treated at Kabul Medical University. “

We need to do everything we can to prevent them from escaping the hospital.
